Simple Homepage Bookmarks · last updated 27 October 2026
Simple Homepage Bookmarks replaces the browser's new tab page with your own bookmark tiles and a background photo. It collects no personal data, shows no ads, has no analytics or tracking, and sells or shares nothing.
What the extension stores
- Your bookmarks, groups and settings are kept in your browser's extension storage. If you are signed in to your browser with sync turned on, the browser syncs them across your devices through your Google or Microsoft account. The developer never receives them.
- The background photo queue, the list of photo categories and the colours of site icons are kept in local extension storage on your device only.
- Pages you add with the toolbar button: the extension reads the address and title of the current tab only when you click its button, and saves them as a bookmark in the storage described above.
- Importing from your browser: only when you click "Import Most Visited" or "Favorites Bar", and only after you allow it in the browser's permission prompt, the extension reads your browser's list of most visited sites or the links on your favorites bar. It reads them once, at that click, and saves the addresses and titles as bookmarks in the storage described above. It never reads your full browsing history, never changes or deletes your browser's own bookmarks, and sends none of this to the developer or anyone else.
Network requests
- Photo service (homepage-photos.xelblch.workers.dev, run by the developer on Cloudflare): the extension asks it for a list of background images and photo categories. Requests contain only the background source and the categories you picked. The service does not store or log these requests; Cloudflare, which hosts it, processes them, including your IP address, under the Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Images are loaded directly from Unsplash (images.unsplash.com) or IGDB (images.igdb.com), which see your IP address like any website you visit. See the Unsplash privacy policy and the Twitch privacy notice (IGDB is part of Twitch).
- Downloads: when you save an Unsplash photo with the download button, the photo service tells Unsplash that the photo was downloaded, as Unsplash requires. Only the photo's id is sent.
- Site icons come from your browser's own icon cache; the extension makes no request for them.
Your choices
You can export your bookmarks from the extension's settings or remove them at any time, choose the gradient background to stop all requests to the photo service, or remove the extension, which deletes everything it stored.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. For questions, use the support contact on the extension's Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons page.
